Alias: 3-(5,5, 6-trimethylbicyclic (2.2.1) hept-2-yl) cyclohex-1-ol
CAS Number 3407-42-9
Molecular formula: C16H28O
Molecular weight: 236.39
EINECS number 222-294-1
Nature:
- Appearance: TCH is a colorless liquid or white crystalline solid.
- Solubility: It can dissolve in many organic solvents, such as ethanol, chloroform and dimethyl ether.
Purpose:
TCH can be used as a solvent and is particularly suitable for ketones, aldehydes and hydrogenation reactions.
It can also be used as a reagent in organic synthesis, for example, as a catalyst or reducing agent.
High-end fragrance components: The combination of the bicyclic [2.2.1] heptane (norbornane) framework and the cyclohexanol structure of this compound may endow it with aroma characteristics similar to sandalwood, ambergris or wood, making it suitable for fragrance formulations in high-end perfumes, cosmetics or cleaning products.
Aroma modifier: Its rigid structure may help enhance the persistence and stability of the aroma and is used as a fixative.
Drug intermediates: Bicyclic [2.2.1] heptane skeletons are commonly found in biologically active molecules, such as anti-inflammatory, antiviral or neuroactive compounds. The hydroxyl group of this compound can be further derivatized for the synthesis of derivatives with specific pharmacological activities.
Receptor modulators: Compounds with similar structures may act on certain biological receptors (such as GABA receptors or hormone receptors), and are potentially used in the development of sedative, anti-anxiety or anti-epileptic drugs.
Chiral synthesizer: The chiral center of the cyclohexanol part can be used for asymmetric synthesis to construct complex chiral molecules.
Functional material monomers: Their rigid double-ring structure may be used to synthesize high-performance polymers or liquid crystal materials, endowing the materials with special mechanical or optical properties.
Pesticide or insect pheromones: Some bicyclic compounds have insect-attracting or repelling activity and may be used in agriculture or pest control fields.
Catalysts or ligands: A combination of hydroxyl groups and bicyclic structures may serve as ligands for metal catalysts for specific organic reactions.
