P-hydroxyanisole, also known as p-methoxyphenol, is an organic compound

Nature:

It is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a fragrant smell at room temperature.
It can dissolve in alcohol and ether solvents, but is poorly soluble in water.

Purpose

1. Industrial and chemical applications
Polymerization inhibitor (polymerization inhibitor)
It is used for the storage and transportation of monomers such as acrylate and styrene to prevent their spontaneous polymerization (such as a stabilizer for methyl methacrylate (MMA)).

It can be used as a free radical scavenger in UV-cured resins, unsaturated polyesters and other systems to extend the storage period.

(2) Antioxidants
It is used in industries such as lubricating oil, fuel, rubber and plastic to prevent oxidation and degradation.

It is used as an auxiliary antioxidant in food packaging materials (subject to regulatory restrictions).

2. Medicine and Cosmetics
Drug intermediates
It is used for the synthesis of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics and anti-tumor drugs (such as certain tyrosine kinase inhibitors).

It serves as a precursor in the synthesis of local anesthetics (such as lidocaine derivatives).

(2) Cosmetic additives
Antioxidants: Delay the oxidation and deterioration of skin care products (such as essence, face cream).

Whitening agent: Inhibits tyrosinase activity and reduces melanin production (should be used within a safe concentration).

Hair dye stabilizer: Prevents oxidative hair dyes from degrading prematurely.

3. Food and Agriculture
Food antioxidants (limited)
In some countries, it is permitted to be used as a food additive (E number E316) for the preservation of oils, meats, etc. (but most countries prefer to use BHA/BHT).

(2) Pesticide intermediates
It is used for the synthesis of fungicides and herbicides (such as certain phenoxy carboxylic acid pesticides).

4. Other uses
Photographic developer: A component of the developer used for black-and-white photos.

Electronic chemicals: Used as a stabilizer in semiconductor cleaning or photoresist.
