- Appearance: 3, 5-diiodosalicylic acid is a white crystalline solid.
Solubility: 3, 5-diiodosalicylic acid is soluble in anhydrous ethanol and methanol, but insoluble in water.
Purpose
1. The field of medicine
(1) Antibacterial and anti-infection
Disinfectants and preservatives:
Iodinated salicylic acid compounds have broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and can be used for skin disinfection or surface treatment of medical devices (similar to the effect of iodoform).
Anti-tuberculosis research
It was historically used as an adjuvant treatment for tuberculosis (combined with iodine to enhance the therapeutic effect), but its application is relatively rare in modern times.
(2) Anti-hyperthyroidism
Thyroid inhibitor
The release of iodine may interfere with the synthesis of thyroid hormones and was once used for the temporary control of hyperthyroidism (now replaced by safer drugs).
(3) Drug intermediates
Used for synthesizing more complex drug molecules, such as:
X-ray contrast agent (iodinated aromatic compounds are common structures of contrast agents).
Modified precursors of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
2. Agricultural field
Fungicide
It has a certain inhibitory effect on plant pathogenic fungi (such as powdery mildew and rust) and can be used for crop protection (further formulation optimization is needed).
Growth regulator
Iodophenolic acid substances may affect the metabolism of plant hormones and regulate growth.

Organic synthesis intermediates
